Skypecast
Update: 2008-09-28
We're planning for another Skypecast over the next few weeks.
All visitors and supporters should familiarise themselves with Skype at www.skype.com
We'll be looking to do a Skypechat session first for those who are still unsure about the technology.
Please check back on this page for updates.

FAQ
What is a Skypecast? It is a way of linking up people to talk to each other. This is just like with a telephone.
Does it cost anything? Yes. It's the same cost as connecting to the internet to browse these webpages. In other words there should is no additional cost to using Skype.
Is it some kind of complicated technology for geeks? No it isn't complicated and it isn't for geeks. Even a three-year old can use skype? Why? Because it is as easy as using a telephone.
What do I need to use Skype?
- A computer, that has a working microphone and speakers, connected to the internet - OR
- A Skype enabled cellphone or home phone. Yup many cellphones and home handsets are now coming with Skype already enabled. Many who have good quality cell/mobile phones connected to 3G or Vodafone can get Skype. So this means you can hook up with us for free, from your cell, from anywhere in the world!
See: www.3Skypephone.com
But I don't have a computer. As mentioned, a computer is just one way of connecting and speaking over Skype.
What's good a about Skypecast? You can link up in real time and exchange ideas by voice with a select group of people with very interesting ideas. So in a Skypecast you could be speaking with 3 or more people; very much like being in a room with other people in a live meeting.
Is it that good? Like any other conversation or discussion, what you get out of it depends on the people and the quality of inputs. The Skypecast itself is only a way of linking up people. What people talk about and what ideas they exchange is up to them. However, a well planned and managed Skypecast is likely to be much better than one that isn't. We're aiming to bring in some high calibre people, and a well managed set of discussions.
Will the government be listening in? We really hope so.
Do I have to identify myself in the meeting? No really. It's up to you. If no they Skypecast moderator (chair person) will refer to you by your Skype ID.
What's a Skype ID? That's any old name you choose to represent you when you sign up at Skype.
I'm anxious about all this. It's possible that the first users of telephones were anxious about dialing a number. These days you hardly have to dial a telephone; you can simply say call 'Joe Bloggs' and the thing will dial the respective pre-programmed number. The first users of TV, Microwaves, Diswashers, Computers, etc etc. all had a degree of anxiety. But when used to they things they would have wondered what was all that about. Best thing to do is to jump in and try it. Go: www.skype.com.
