Contempt, neglect and maladministration.. in a health service near you.

This morning (2009-07-26) I am moved by the Trinidad Express triangulating on the ridiculous situation in Health Services dong on dee Rock. I’ll excerpt from core pieces of the Express – but note, that does not mean I support all the opinions expressed. (photos are hyperlinked from TT Express with full credits given to the Express).

See the Poll at the end of this post.

Read Dr Lall Sawh’s interview with Nazma Muller of TT Express: We’re stoning the messenger which is a long one and continues in tomorrow’s Express. (Dr Sawh pulls no punches. Guess why? He eh need to clean dee TT Gov’t arse, to make a livin’!! See it here: Foreign patients seek medical treatment in T&T - people flyin’ een from overseas fuh dee man to operate on dem. Yuh t’ink he cyare much for what Narace t’ink about him? Like no!)

LS: The point is, we're training a lot of doctors in this country, eh. Why are they leaving? You see, we're not addressing that issue. Why are they leaving? If things were so hunky-dory here, who would want to go in a foreign country and put up with that?…

..NM: You see, what he's done is sidelined the main issue. Instead of coming with numbers-we had 100 patients with prostate cancer last year and the waiting list is two years. If he had come to Parliament with those facts and figures the media all now would be delving into that...

LS: But do you know that they've been saying that over and over? I don't agree with the dramatic way he put it over. But I think there is some virtue in that he got the attention of the whole country and that is what we needed. Why has it taken a whole year? These doctors who have left didn't leave yesterday morning, you know. I left at the end of 2007 and the service, nobody was aware of it. I mean, the Ministry must know. North West [RHA] must know. Nobody attempted to repair the deficit. Nothing was done until he [Gopeesingh] came in this rather bizarre manner and introduced it. … Dr Sawh’s views are armour-piercing! Do continue to have a good read at TT Express: We’re stoning the messenger.

And den a shrink from London in dee UK, in – TT Express ‘Letter of the day’ Doctor shortage sign of incompetence – gives Tattoo some home truths.

Colm Imbert, in a report in the Express on July 23, said that there were 2,400 medical posts unfilled, and half of those (that is 1,200) represented a chronic shortage. Mr Imbert - formerly a health minister back in 2003 - reminds us that the chronic shortage of doctors in T&T existed before 2003 and as far back as the 1950s. What an admission of gross maladministration and incompetence! ..

..It appears to me that Imbert is bent again on aping, as he did in 2003, the strategies used by Thatcher (in England). He comes nowhere near Mrs Thatcher's intellectual prowess in her heyday. I said in 2003 that Imbert was living in cloud cuckoo land. It seems that he has now taken up permanent residence there - and now he has company! Happy, they all are. Sad will be the people of T&T who expect high-quality, first-world-like health services on the approach to 2020.

Boy, he eh pullin’ no punches eidda. Yuh see he and Sawh in dee same boat. Dey not muzzled and dey not busy cleanin’ arse.

And here we have Narace looking like if he was just released from St. Ann’s madhouse – yapping about how he go investigate how some patient was beaten to death in the madhouse! Hear Narace nah: “Although I trust that this is a unique circumstance and does in no way reflect on the care provided at the hospital overall, both I and the executive management team and staff at the Ministry of Health and the (North West Regional Health Authority) NWRHA clearly and unequivocally condemn this and any other form of negligence at any health facility in Trinidad and Tobago…” Unique circumstance? Well eef allyuh believe dat, allyuh was surely born dis morning.

Then there is a very sad story - Premature baby left to die - of this young lady, Carrie Chang, who delivered (she claims) a 27 week baby which was left in her arms to die at Mt. Hopeless. “They let my baby die because a paediatrician, who could not even speak English properly, insisted that my baby looked like 25 weeks. How is that even right," she asked. Note the issue of ‘linguistic competence’ – as mentioned by the shrink in Doctor shortage sign of incompetence.

At year 2009, health care provided by the Gov't of T&T, is:

The Captain was seriously upset by these photos and what they represent. I think all of us who see these pictures must feel the baby’s and her parents’ pain.

baby_faithPictures are from The Guardian front page 2009-07-31. I’m speechless. The poor child is unable to know what is going on around her.

According to Medical Chief of Staff at SGH, Dr Stephen Ramroop, in Newsday 2009-07-16
I would like to let everyone know that this is an incident that will occur, has occurred and does occur in every single acute care hospital in the world.

baby_faith_closeup1 Zooming in on Faith’s arm.

When I read in Newsday Newsday 2009-07-16, that Dr Ramroop said, “When the line extravasated it was recognised by the junior doctors, the senior doctors dressed the extravasation, or cellular damage, and referred it to a specialist plastic surgeon,” - I was thinking to meh chupid self, “Why dey sen’in’ dee case to a plastic surgeon for…mus’ be somet’ing political?” Well at dee time (back on 16th July) I wasn’t seeing dem photos, eh. Now dee referral make sense.

But have an even closer look.

Dr Ramroop reportedly said, “The wound will heal. Nothing is wrong with the child’s bones, nothing is wrong with the limb, it is a superficial burn that most of us would get when we scald our hand, in this case it was due to a fluid that leaked into the tissue and damaged the skin.

Aye – well medical records were reportedly missing when Anand Ramlogan sought them, on behalf of relatives: Newsday  2009-07-30. Ah feel medical records fraid Ramlogan like a cyat boy – so dey mus’ be does dus’ it when dey hear he comin’ fuh dem! Dey could have legged it to Mt Hopeless perhaps – who knows?

Well it seems dat Baby Faith’s mother – in Guardian 2009-07-31 - provin’ Dr Ramroop wrong, boy. She sayin’, “Earl said doctors were concerned when they removed the bandage from Faith’s hand yesterday, and saw that the injury was not healing.” A nurse reportedly said that Faith’s arm was in “terrible condition”. Oh and dee medical records dat were MIA suddenly turned up!

In other events at St. Ann’s madhouse, The Ministry of Health has promised ‘transparency’ in the investigation of Warner’s beating to death [TT Express 2009-07-31]. Transparency? Daize a big wo’d eh. Dem fellas know whuh dat is? Yuh never read bout Udecott or what? And yuh t’ink dey go be transparent about Baby Faith’s arm, wid Ramlogan gehin’ ready tuh put a nail in dey ass. Come nah man – doh make fun! Ah lorse meh faith, long time..long long time!

My faith in the TT Gov't health service is:

...so much for the Land of Milk and Honey...this is more like "the snake oil salesmen at work..".or better yet...it reminds me of the Pied Piper and the Rats and Mice dancing their way and following their illustrious leader(s) to their certain misery and demise...just throw a fete and a party and they all come and die for it...!

...if this is indeed the Land of Milk and Honey they all spouting about...now we know why all their supporters are willing to be killed and die by the handful(s) daily just to live in this Land of Milk and Honey...all fiction by the PNM...and its leaders...even Penguins and Lambs are smarter than that...!

...at least they won't follow their leader to the slaughter...but not these PNMites, they have been so indoctrinated over the years that they no longer have the capacity or ability to think for themselves...that has been effectively removed...hence their leaders do that for them...and so like pigeons...NO...pigeons are also smarter than that...like PNMites they are...as they are clueless...they all bawling and crying each and every day at wakes and funerals of their loved ones...and yet they "wave and shout" in support of their illustrious leaders...who don't care or give a fig as to their well being...as the country sinks further and further into despair and sorrow and hardships and crime under their watch....but that is Trinis for you...all rumshop politics ...they like it so...jes doh stop the fete...doh stop the partying...doh mine of we dead first...!

...they all so happy, the're all dying to live in good ole Trinidad & Tobago...it does not matter to them...and dying they are...for sure in this fake PNM - Land of Milk and Honey....fake just like its PNM leaders!...so beware of the Pied Pipers ...the PNM Pied Pipers...and the snake oil salesmen...beware...???

...and help is not on its way, at least not anytime soon...!

...goodluck...Trino.t.o.o

...anything coming out the mouth of Imbert is at best expected and laughable...its a real joke...nobody believes him anymore...he belongs to the YUK-YUK CLUB...and his true profession should be in comedy...he could make a good living at it...so, so much for his utterances...!

...then you have, the goodly Minister of Health, Jerry Narace,...like his colleague Imbert...out of his mouth comes "laughter is the best medicine"...and that too is expected...he certainly feels he could make everyone healthy all by just opening his mouth with little concern as to what comes out of it...and he does not even laugh, but says it with "a straight face.."..just like any real comedian would...another member for the YUK-YUK CLUB...another joker, like his buddy Imbert...?...that should keep them all healthy...the laughter that is...certainly not the health care...!

...but then, these are things expected from the two Ministers in the Government regime...their sayings are hollow and mostly meant for Government Propaganda...not how much substance or real truth is being dished out for public consumption...just jokey laughter from the ministers acting like clowns at a circus...for the amusement of the public at large...to keep them happy in fantasy land just like their so called illustriuos leader......!!!

...but the shocker is the statements coming from Dr.Ramroop...???...to have us believe that these types of incidents are happening in "every single acute care hospital in the world"...???

...where is this man living...?...the answer is NO, Dr.Ramroop...this is not happening in every hospital in the world...and I hope you ain't telling a joke like the other two Ministers...why play into politics Dr.Ramroop...of all people, you should know a whole lot better than that...!!!

...but like the saying ...this could only happen in Trinidad you say...eh...no...??..the whole world right...?...nuff said before the lawsuits start....perhaps you could explain your comments then...right...?...I'm sure you'll get the chance at the right time...unlike poor Faith...who speaks for her...???!

...what a shame for health care...what a shameful way to treat a poor innocent child this way...a darn crying shame to say the least......may justice prevail in the end...somewhere and somehow for poor Faith...!

...goodluck...Trini.t.o.o
